Class #3 Beginner Sailing Level 1

The Beginner Sailing Program curriculum includes:

  • 20 hours of land and on the water instruction
  • The “Learn Sailing Right” textbook is included
  • Safety Aspects of Sailing: Physical Fitness, PFD’s, Attire
  • Environmental Awareness: Wind, Weather, Currents
  • Sailboat Elements: Sail Power, Boat Parts, Knots and Lines
  • Sailing Skills: Upwind, Downwind, Stopping, Docking
  • Emergency Skills: Capsize Recovery, Overboard Drill
  • Rules of the Road: Right of Way.
  • Introduction To Sailboat Racing during Wednesday Club Races


This class will be held at Lake Davenport but may move to Lost Grove Lake if river conditions require it.
